We love interiors! Helping clients, achieve personality, style and a cohesive yet individual look for their home or business is always a joy.
Our Interior Design expertise is a service that we don’t promote widely. But when asked, we relish getting involved in any project or interior accessory search. Whether is choosing upholstery to go with existing soft furnishings and artwork, a redesign of a just one room or a more substantial project, we love to help.
How we work…
Usually after an initial meeting, we present mood boards for each room with different and distinct interior schemes. Presenting and discussing concept mood boards is a really effective way to refine, clarify and agree the design direction of a project with clients. I think that it’s probably the most important stage and most nerve racking sometimes but it ensures that we ultimately have clients who love and are excited about the interior we have jointly created.
If you have a project you would like our input, do just ask. Most weekdays we are usually available to have a cuppa and discuss how we may be able to assist.
Please call ahead and book an appointment with Andrew or Jacqueline before making a special journey.
Buying is my favourite part of what we do…and some times the scariest parts to! We love “hunting” for new and unique things for Armstrong Ward. I genuinely feel joyful when we discover something new that we love and think our customers will enjoy to.
This season we’ve scoured six trade shows everything from Furniture Show, Children’s Wear and the dreaded but essential Spring Fair. Comfy shoes, energy bars (gluten free for Mr W) and an old fashioned notebook are my trade show musts.
How do we decide on what to buy?
Sometimes we go with a clear ideas and shopping list but more often with have buying criteria and themes in mind which evolve and are inspired and shaped by what we discover.
This year we have refocused on emerging makers and producers. Many of our favourite finds this season, are not stocked anywhere else in Cumbria!
Following Armstrong Ward’s rebrand and new retail website they are delighted to launch a personal wedding list service.
This concierge style service allows couples and their guests to choose items from exclusive ranges in the Lake District store or online at armstrongward.co.uk.
Using Armstrong Ward’s gift list service couples can choose from its wide selection of carefully considered and well chosen ranges or pick one large item like a lovely new Wesley Barrel sofa that their guests contribute to. The service is ideal for couples looking to kit out their homes and new lives together with something extra special.
Owner Jacqueline Ward explains, “We are an independent store with some lovely and unique products, our service will be different to other department stores with personal advisors on hand to help with inspiration and give the attention to detail that other places lack. We are not run of the mill and don’t stock the same things as everyone else making our wedding lists unique.”
Jacqueline explains how the service came about, “It has been due to popular demand. Brides-to-be actually started asking me for this service and we created our new website with the technology to turn the idea into a reality.”
Armstrong Ward’s personal gift list service isn’t just for couples getting married, it can also be for celebrating a new arrival, a big birthday or any important occasion. Armstrong Ward can create a list for any kind of celebration.
Jacqueline and Andrew Ward opened Armstrong Ward in Kendal’s Wainwrights Yard eight years ago, with a vision to sell goods and British brands that were under represented locally.
They now sell a mixture of design led gifts, homeware and furniture, displayed in an imaginative way with good customer service. Their brands; Wesley Barrel, Emma Bridgewater, John Sankey Furniture, Moulin Roty, Maileg, Garden Trading have been popular since day one. Every item in Armstrong Ward has been carefully selected by either Andrew and Jackie Ward.
Jackie is a local girl, born in Helme Chase and growing up in Witherslack. She has two children, Harry, 8 and Tilly who is 4 years old.
Before opening Armstrong Ward eight years ago Jackie Ward worked in new product development with national retailers such as M&S and ASDA . After having her first child Harry, with her husband she decided she wanted to return to The Lake District. With few job that fitted their experience or interest they decided to create their own jobs, that is when Armstrong Ward was born.
They felt there was an opportunity to provide an inspirational retail outlet in Kendal, the town was having a bad time due to the effects of the new one way system, but we knew that the South Lakes provided a good mix of visitors and local community.
In the last six months they rebranded, doubled their shop floor space and opened a coffee shop. This month they will host their first wedding fair and officially launch their new wedding gift list service. In September they are also set to introduce six new designers in store as a result of their recent Design Open Door competition. Beyond that, Christmas events and preview evenings are planned showing that Armstrong Ward definitely has what it takes to stand the test of time.

I am really a country girl at heart, never happier than when I’m pottering around at home with our children Harry (5 years) and Matilda, (Tilly 20 months) and secretly have an ambition to one day retire and spend my days making cakes and jam!
But until then family life is a juggling act of fitting in running our shop Armstrong ward Lifestore, in the lovely Lake Disctrict market town of Kendal, with the day to day round of children’s birthday parties, swimming lessons, playgroups and PTA meetings. Oh and I nearly forgot to mention the renovation of a 300 year old Westmorland farmhouse.. which at the moment is more rustic than chic. So life is hectic but fun!
So on our blog I thought I’d share with you a mixture of our favourite places, shops and resturants, fun family days out, and recipes that we love, along with a sprinkling of news & sneak previews of gorgeous new things for our shop Armstrong Ward Kendal.
